Three to Thrive: A Theory About Fulfillment

Home » Three to Thrive: A Theory About Fulfillment

So, I’ve got this theory. I’m gonna call it, Three To Thrive and the idea is that there are three things about you, three core things, that you need to take care of and nourish and keep in alignment, in order to truly thrive.

Not just get by, but thrive.

Not just be happy but feel fulfilled and, in a way, complete.

They are NOT just three things about you, like:

I have three kids.

I don’t like 90’s music.

I’m a vegan.

Good for you on the vegan thing, but that’s not what we’re looking for here.

They are not just things that are important to you. Yes, your family might come first or you might be passionate about yoga, but those are not your Three.

They are not even your dreams, your hopes, or your goals. Those are all fleeting. They change. They evolve. Three to Thrive is solid.

These Three things make up the core of who you are. They are pillars. If they begin to crumble, your very foundation begins to shake.

Your Three to Thrive are you at your best. They must be tended to and cared for and nourished. If one is lacking, the others will suffer. If one if thriving, the others will reap the benefits. Once you discover them, live by them.

Am I making sense? Or do I sound like some new-agey, vegan-coffee drinking, wanna-be yogi? Hey. I am NOT vegan.

In order to explain them better, let me tell you mine.

My Three to Thrive:

  1. I need to write.
  2. I need connections.
  3. I need to feel confident.

I Need to Write.

At first, this may seem like an interest. But for me, writing is so much more than that. I’ve been writing since before I could actually write. It’s become a part of me. It’s a part of who I am. Wanna know how I know? I’ve tried not writing. I get lazy. I go long stretches without putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. Know what happens? It’s not good. I feel…off. I feel lost. If I’m not writing, who am I?

Because writing has become such a key part of my identity, it helps me thrive. Because without it, I’m not myself.

I Need To Feel Confident.

This one can touch on a number of aspects in my life. First, is the most obvious — physical appearance. Yes, I will admit, I need to feel confident in how I look. I feel like it’s almost taboo to admit this, or that people see it as superficial, but I think it’s important.

Think about how great you feel after a new haircut or when you get a new outfit. This feeling drives me and I try to mimic it across all aspects of my life. I need to feel confident in my writing, that I’m doing the right things for my career, that I am treating my body right, in the decisions I’m making for my life…if don’t, I feel…small. Timid. Unsure of myself.

I Need Connections.

In order for me to feel truly content, I need deep connections. To my partner, to my friends, to the Earth (ok, so I’m a little new-agey) to my career, and more.

If I haven’t seen a dear friend in a long time and had a real conversation with them, I’ll feel off.

If life gets crazy and my partner and I just see each other in the morning and before bed for a quick kiss, I’ll feel sad.

If I feel like I’m just moving through my day, completing tasks, and going through the motions, I will feel frustrated.

On the flip side, if I leave an event after having a fiery conversation about writing with people that share in my passion, I’ll feel energized.

If I start a new project with a new client that I am so fired up about we talk for an hour, I feel connected to what I do and I feel awesome.

I could go on.

But I won’t.

This is a simple introduction to my theory, Three To Thrive.

My Three will be different than Your Three but each will be a reflection of who you are and what’s important to you.

This is just the beginning of the conversation. Stay tuned to find out how to choose your Three, how to nurture your Three, and how each one can impact another.

This is all new to me too and I’d love for you to join me on my #three2thrive journey.

Let me know one, or all, of yours! Find me on social and either Tweet or Insta one of your Three using the hashtag, #three2thrive. Let’s thrive together!
